Below are just a sampling of the many comments from South Jersey residents we've received telling us why they support
Alternative NJ-3
Bus service to Center City
Philadelphia is not enough. As a
longtime resident of Stratford NJ, I have grown up using the Patco High
Speed Line. It is clean, efficient, economical alternative for the
daily commute into Philadelphia. A similar service made available to
Woodbury and the surrounding communities would help to substantially
reduce the amount of rush hour traffic and help to redevelop the
downtown area.
- Laura, Woodbury Resident
I grew
up in a town in North Jersey right on the line to NYC. I
experienced the transition to the mid-town direct line 10-20 years ago
by NJT (New Jersey Transit) and have watched my childhood home more
than quadruple in value.
I believe this is a great thing for Gloucester County. Additionally,
value would be lost by not traveling directly through communities due
to the fact that this would require all commuters to drive to the
stations as opposed to only some. I am strongly in favor of the line
through Wenonah.
It is
simple, I would not drive to take the train. I feel the train
should come to where the people are, not the other way around.
- Rob, Woodbury Heights Resident
I grew
up in Vineland with passenger rail service to Philadelphia. I
now must drive from Glassboro to Ferry Ave. Why? We should have rail
service in the 21st century.
- John, Glassboro Resident
It
would allow convenient travel north to other parts of the state,
which is necessary for employment. It would also help keep tax dollars
in the state. Home values will increase and car traffic on 95/295 will
be reduced.
- Lillian, Woolwich Township
Resident
Commuter
rail will bring new residents to Woodbury, help with
revitalization of the downtown area, and be a wonderful convenience.
- Diane and Brian, Woodbury
Residents
The
mass transit service from South Jersey to Philadelphia is currently
pathetic as is the same for the highway conditions between the two. A
rail service would not only make it easier for residents of South
Jersey, most of whom work in Philadelphia, to get there, but it would
also open up the roads a bit more for the hold-outs who prefer to drive
as well as commercial transportation vehicles.
- Robert D., Sewell Resident
I work
in Philadelphia and drive to work everyday. The bus takes too
long. A train would be great. It would alleviate the traffic,
especially those long summer Friday night commutes, and save on wear
and tear on my car while lowering my auto insurance premiums.
- Susan, Wenonah Resident
I work
in Center City Philadelphia and currently use NJ Transit during
the
week and although I have a car, I hate driving in traffic. Also the
price
of rising gas is becoming a concern for all of us. I like the area I
live
in which is away from the city but I would use this method on the
weekends
also to enjoy some of the cultural and entertainment features the city
has
to offer as well as visiting some of the neighboring NJ towns I have
not
seen.
- Sharon, Woodbury Resident
I do
not drive and would like an alternative to the bus.
- Patrick, Westville Resident
My wife
and I love to use the high speed line to go into Philadelphia.
It could only be better to get on a train right here in Glassboro.
- Terry, Glassboro Resident
I would
like to go to Philly more often for convention center
activities, theater, etc. It would be wonderful to be able to walk to
the train station to do this. I commuted to Philly by car for many
years, but am now retired. Current choices to go to Philly are just
too congested or inconvenient.
I have
lived in Wenonah for 40 years. My house sits about 100 feet
from the tracks and I have four young children. We all love the
freight train that comes through town and would love to be able to ride
the passenger line together. Public transportation in our area is
desperately needed.
- Tommy, Wenonah Resident
Our county needs
more available public transportation and I feel this would benefit all
areas and open opportunities for workers to commute by public
transportation.
- Stacey, Paulsboro Resident
Traffic to and from the existing train stations is bad and getting worse. More stations farther south, like the 295 park and ride, will help this problem.
- Lou, Swedesboro Resident
We moved here from Burlington County and lived thru all the emotional ups and downs of the residents dealing with the Light Rail
Line. We believe firmly that rail service is the answer to the problem of congested roadways and lack of willingness to travel to many parts of the state........Parking problems are the defining reason for lack of participation in many of our state-wide activities. Rail participation should also diminish the
environmental concerns of toxic fumes!
- Robert & Barbara, Deptford Residents
I live in Gloucester City, NJ. It would be a godsend to the community to see rail travel be brought back to our city. It would promote
economic growth, allow visitors to appreciate the historic value of our
community, and help combat poverty.
- Daniel, Gloucester City Resident
I am a life-long resident of Gloucester/Camden County. The plan is necessary to relieve sprawl and congestion while at the same time promoting the local economy.
- Robert, Clarksboro Resident
I live in
Bridgeton and commute to Center City Philadelphia 5 days a week. If I
can cut my parking costs and gas costs and time spent in traffic - I
would love it!
- Donna, Bridgeton Resident
I commuted to Rowan (when it was Glassboro State College) from West Deptford back in the 70's. Running a car on a student budget wasn't easy, and I always wished I could have taken a train instead. My parents both used the old Woodbury Heights station quite heavily over the years, and I would have as well.
- Erica, Blackwood Resident
I work in downtown Philadelphia and have done so in 16 of my 20 years experience. In that time traffic has increased exponentially and will continue to do so as the Rte 55 corridor continues to develop as well as Woolwich Twp and the rest of the farmlands in southeast Gloucester County. I supported this effort 10 years ago. I am hoping that the support will be there this time around. It's obvious to me that is needed now and needed in the future.
I would be a heavy user of an extended PATCO.
- Michael, Sewell Resident
Our county needs more available public transportation and
I feel this would benefit all areas and open opportunities for workers to commute by public transportation.
- Stacey, Paulsboro Resident
I would love the ability to go into
Philadelphia without driving.
- Bruce, Deptford Resident
It would provide convenient travel to Philly as well as North/Central Jersey for recreational activities as well as job
opportunities. My family would visit more of the attractions in Camden, Philly, Trenton, etc if we had this kind of convenience.
- Kelly, Wenonah Resident
I live only 3 blocks from one of the proposed stations...great way to get to
Camden or Philly.
- Warren, West Deptford Resident
I just started working in Philadelphia downtown and it is just nightmare driving everyday into the
city. I am already thinking of changing my job and can't imagine what hurdles people face going in
everyday. Having to care for the young children , I am spending more than 2 hrs a day in
traffic. The South Jersey area has been growing tremendously and we desperately need the train
service. I wonder when are these politicians going to wake up and keep
at least one of their promises. I think they need to go into town and see for themselves.
- Nirmala, Woolwich Resident
Alternative to the dismal bus service offered by NJ
Transit and a straight line from point to point along the route.
Closest route to where I live ,and I think its the best route to serve the most people.
- Matthew, Thorofare Resident
I worked in Center City a few years ago and loved it.. but hated the commute. This would open up doors of employment for many folks as well as its use for shopping/entertainment purposes. I emailed PATCO in 1998 about this issue and am so happy it is finally being considered. Our environment is suffering from too many vehicles, the cost of fuel and our dependency on foreign countries for this dramatically increases each year (which larger, heavier vehicles that we just can't get enough of). I live in Vineland and this would be such a valuable, long-awaited resource to our community.
- Cindy, Vineland Resident
I like the fact that NJ3 serves the towns where the people are and is more separated from the existing PATCO line than the other options. Not only is it great for getting to
Philadelphia, but it will also promote access to Vineland and the Cumberland Mall,(3% sales tax!)
- Jim, National Park Resident
I could walk to the station for my daily commute to Philadelphia, for Phillies games and for shows at the Walnut Street Theatre. I could leave my car at home.
I support NJ-3 for many reasons. There are a multitude of environmental and energy conservation reasons to put this plan into action. Personally, I would use this train to commute to work on a **daily basis**. I live in proximity to a few of the train stops. My work takes me to places all along the NJ-3 line, and for me, it would be the most efficient and **comfortable** means of transportation, not only for my business purposes, but for my family's "pleasure" purposes- shopping, visiting friends and family, going to restaurants along the train line, etc. As it is now, when I travel through Gloucester and Camden Counties as well as Center City, Philadelphia to go to work, I often arrive at my destination with a massive headache due to the stress of traffic congestion. Since I would have to leave an hour before I am due at work due to traffic congestion anyway, I'd truly rather spend that time engaging in R&R (reading and relaxing) on a comfortable train- having peace of mind that I will arrive on time. Please HELP! I would be thrilled to have the NJ-3 line in operation!
